MacPherson Construction and Design

In the summer of my freshman year in college I needed to find a job so that I could pay some bills and become more financially independent from my parents. My previous jobs consisted of working in Hollister, the movie theatre, and a pizza delivery boy. I wanted a job that had consistent hours and it was work that I enjoyed, not that I was forced to do. I was thinking about where I could apply for a job, when my fraternity buddy told me about an opening at a construction company in Issaquah. I thought that this could be an exciting new employment opportunity for me and I interviewed for the job.
I did not know what to expect when I arrived for my interview and was extremely nervous for the first interview. Nancy and Roger MacPherson, the owners of the company, were the ones to interview me to see if I was a good fit for the company or not. We all hit it off right away and they seemed to like me, especially because I was a WSU Cougar just as they had been. The next day they called me up and I started to work for them for the rest of that summer and many other summers to come.
Every year from my freshman summer to now I have been working with the same company. They treat each and every employee as if they were family, this company has does extremely high class and quality homes, but the atmosphere they create around the job site seems like a small business operation.
My job was to do general labor around different custom homes in the area that we would be working on. On some days I would ride in the dump truck and drive from site to site doing general clean up, and other days I would be helping pour a concrete driveway or delivering lumber to different projects around the Issaquah/Bellevue area. While traveling from one site to another, I had the pleasure to work with some fine contractors who taught me more about construction than I thought I would need to know. Every site I went to, the site manager would appreciate my work I would put in at their site and would help me learn the ropes of the business, and I was grateful that they took the time to help me learn about different phases of building a home.
I appreciate everything that the MacPherson family has done for me. They have given me a job whenever I needed to work without asking questions, and they treat me as if I was a family member. I enjoy being outside and doing labor, especially for people who appreciated what I did, and it kept me busy and active throughout the whole summer.
I would get to work by 8:00am and would be working on my feet sweating all day until 5:00pm. By this time I did not want to go out and have fun because I was exhausted from a long hard days work. I think that this job has taught me the discipline needed to succeed in whatever I put your mind to. It’s about getting down to business, and if that means you have to cut out some of the fun time in your life then so be it, we cannot stay irresponsible forever. I am grateful that I can work for such an amazing company such as MacPherson Construction & Design.
