Goals

I believe that having attainable goals is a great way to track your progress, and is the first step in becoming organized and focused. When you create goals there is incentive for yourself to keep on track to have those goals within reach. I think another aspect of having goals is making a timeline to have those goals completed by, if there isn’t a timeline on the things you want to accomplish then they don’t become a priority and you can tend to slack and put them off until a later date. Time lines force you to stay on track and to keep those goals you have in sight. When you create a time line you want to make sure that the check points you set are reasonable and realistic, because if you have unrealistic expectations of yourself then it can just cause stress and disappointment in your life.

I have some goals of my own that I work on everyday so that I can reach them in a timely manner. I wanted to go to a university and have a degree within four years, and right now I am currently setting myself up for success, because I am planning on graduating with a marketing major in May of 2010.

I am still searching for what I want to do with the rest of my life, but I am consistently narrowing down the possibilities into different fields, and reevaluating my decisions before I am committed to something that I am not happy with or will regret. I know that I will end up doing something business related, either in the real estate, marketing, or finance field. One thing that I do want to have in a prospective job is that I am able to constantly interact with people and build relationships to strengthen my network of contacts.

I also have some personal goals that I set for the well being of myself as well. I like to stay physically fit, so I make myself go to the recreation center here in Pullman at least two or three times a week. I don’t necessarily like to work out but I know that it is for my well being and I am willing to sacrifice three hours a week so that I can accomplish this goal. I ideally would also like to lose some weight, so I set weekly goals so that I can stay on track and keep my goals in sight.

Finally some long-term goals that I have in mind for the future consist of getting independent from my parents at least six months after I graduate from college. I don’t enjoy getting handouts from my parents, because I believe that the harder you work for what you want, the more rewarding reaching those goals become. Plus having that added responsibility of being accountable for your own actions and finances will make future decision making circumstances easier to handle. It isn’t going to be as fun as it sounds but you have to go through some hard times before you start learning and incorporating what you learn in everyday decisions.
