High School

Issaquah highSeattle Preparatory

I started my high school career at Issaquah High School and spent two years there. I loved everything about that school, it was where all of my friends were and I couldn’t picture myself going anywhere else. It was not my choice to change schools but when we moved from Issaquah to Bellevue we had to change districts. It was my father’s decision to transfer me and my sister to Seattle Prep, a private high school in the middle of Seattle. I did not want to leave Issaquah, it was where I was comfortable and I would miss all of my friends, I did not want to be the new kid in school and start all over.

After I knew that it was inevitable that I would change schools I decided to try and embrace the move and to make the best of this situation. I didn’t know or recognize any one from this new Prep school, so I decided to hit the social scene by taking up a new sport in football. I had never played the sport before my junior year in high school, but thought I would try to make some friends at practices before the school year started. I wasn’t very good at playing but I made some new friends during this time and it made the transitions between schools much smoother.

I had some troubles concentrating at Issaquah and did not receive the grades that I knew I could get, and this was at a public school, so the learning curve from public to private school really shook me up. I had to put twice as much effort in to get the same grades, but the support system that was offered in the private school was amazing and I ended up doing quite well the next two years at Seattle Prep.

There were some troubles along the way that made me resent Seattle Prep, my twin sister, Molly, did not enjoy her time at Prep for her first year there and ended up transferring back to Issaquah for her final year of high school. I, on the other hand, could not transfer because of rules and regulations of playing varsity baseball, so I decided to stick it out one more year just so that I could play baseball.

My overall high school experience was not the greatest, I missed being with my friends at the public school and couldn’t find a clique at Prep that I could fit into so I was stuck in-between a rock and a hard place. My decision to tough it out at Prep was not pleasant while I was there but I think that I gained a better view on how to act and react to things that you do not have any control over. I think that after making the switch I found out more about myself than ever before, I am glad I was forced to deal with situations that were not easy to deal with because it made me build a strong foundation of values and morals that will help me guide my way through life.
