Sports
Sports have been a passion for me since I was a little kid. I am a competitive individual and don’t take losing lightly, I want to do the best I can and I give it my all every single time I step foot on a field or court. I have played on baseball, basketball, football, soccer, golf, and swimming teams throughout my childhood and enjoyed the competitiveness that playing on these teams have done to my outlook on my life. I narrowed down the number of sports I played in high school by playing basketball for two years and baseball year round for all four years of my high school career. I would workout and fine tune my skills every single day so that I could become more competitive, and the sense of improving my game through hard work is one of the most rewarding things that I have ever experienced.
I played on the Issaquah High School baseball team for two years and succeeded on junior varsity. When I transferred to Seattle Prep I didn’t know anyone who went there and was a little scared to start new, so I used the baseball team and their workouts to get familiar with some other students while at the same time improving my game and work ethic. My senior season I batted .425, and was starting catcher for every game we had that year. I was going to play in Junior College to see where it would take me, but I realized that my passion was there not because I should be playing while in college, but that it was in my life to influence my competitiveness in not only sports but anything I put my mind to in school, employment opportunities and in life as well.
After I stopped playing baseball in high school I needed another sport to fill my competitive void that was left when I left baseball. I filled this gap by picking up golfing. I have played with my dads a few times before and really enjoyed
the sport, so I wanted to pursue this interest of mine. When I started playing consistently there would be days that I would want to quit the game because it is one of the most frustrating games in the world. Proper focus and concentration are required on every single shot you take, because if you break that concentration it will result in a terrible score. I enjoy this game because not only is it rewarding when you hit a great shot, but because when you get the reward of meeting and exceeding your goals there is no better feeling in the world.
I think I am competitive and have a great drive for things that I want to achieve. Playing sports has shown me the rewards that persistency can bring, not just in a game, but in real life circumstances as well. I will never lose that competitive drive I get when I play sports and will continue my new passion of golf. I will hopefully use my golf skill in the future for business meetings, and for fun as well. I know until then I will be putting my mind to the steps that are required to make my hopes a reality.
